And Australia are knocked out of the tournament.
This along with Scotland thrashing England has made a good start to the week
Ok Virgil

Soooo are Zimbabwe a dark horse?
Or Sri Lanka ensuring even no outside mathematical chance of Australia coming back
T20 clearly more chance at upsets in every game though
I wonder when the Aussies last had to play a dead rubber where they hadn't qualified the next stage.

Had a quick look, one instance looked to be the ODI WC in 1992
They missed out on getting out of the group stage even before playing their last game against the Windies

I was at Lancaster Park watching NZ lose to Pakistan in our last pool game. We had to win for Australia to still have a mathematical chance of qualifying for the play-offs, so once it became obvious we were going to lose, the crowd started chanting "Goodbye to Aussie", eventually followed by "Aussies are w__kers" as our creativity shone through...

I don't remember us losing to Pakistan in the pool. I can't forget us losing to them in the SF
Looking forward to game later, lucky that this week I’m in the right Timezone for it. Tariq will be an interesting proposition for us since we haven’t faced this mutant yet

We lost to them two games in a row!
I remember there being discussion that we should throw the pool game against Pakistan to knock out the Aussies, pretty sure we didn't throw that pool game though.

I remember thinking we could win the SF until Martin Crowe went down, and Inzamam Ul Haq took the game away from us
Mike Hesson coached Pakistan … surely the fall guy if NZ get up . Getting close to kick off not sure if we get Ferguson back yet

Sooo rain still heavy and if we do start we start losing overs
Guessing that doesn't really play into our hands with our inability to get wickets?

I’m guessing washout preferred now taking a point against Pakistan in this group could still be useful
Cricket sentences you don't expect to read:
The Super Eights phase was pre-seeded according to ICC rankings, with Zimbabwe taking the place reserved for Australia, the one team in the top eight not to advance.
So if NZ make the semis, Aus do not have direct access to 2028 Olympics and have to qualify via a tournament based on rankings. Surely that’s an incentive in itself
Well, my opinion of T20 is that it's a bit of a crapshoot.
Sharing points with Pakistan means that the pool becomes more of a crapshoot.
That works against us if you think we're one of the stronger teams in the pool (and especially if you think we're better than Pakistan) and for us if you think we're weaker.
Given that all four second placed teams are in our pool, I'm inclined to think we'd have been better to reduce the crapshoot element by playing all our games.
vs England will be a crapshoot, though Nepal nearly beat them.
Zimbabwe beat SL and both beat Oz.
Roll them dice!
I don't think the change of venue does us any favours. If we manage to emerge from the group I assume we have to go back to India
Assuming Lanka finish this well only needing 147, then that sets the standard in our group. New Zealand would also need to dispatch England to ensure run rate good enough
Sri Lanka might struggle from here even though plenty of time to go… this would make super eights interesting if this continues. Still lots of time left in this one
