Wasn’t David Havilli a rumoured Crusaders departure?

No he is staying.

Lol how is that guy not leaving? Surely, he's getting some pay top up not to go and chase the money overseas. Either that or he's delusional and thinks he has a chance to claim that 12 jersey over Barrett or Tupaea.

Weird to criticise a player for staying.

He's settled in chch, his family are happy and he has business interests there.

For a guy who might be on the fringes of selection, it's nice to have him stay in SR when so many others are leaving

I'm not begrudging the guy for staying, fair enough. I'm just surprised that in this day and age when players can get lucrative offers that he's happy to play out his footy in NZ.

Kiwiwomble

is it really deluional?...as much as i wouldnt pick him hes been an all black with the last couple of years and playing well, id also say he's probably past his prime for getting lured overseas, at this point id probably make a push for a RWC squad spot

What about some of the MP players like Israel Leota?

I thought Havili played really well in the last half of the season. Don't know if that is enough to be in the selection thinking but you never know given how many players are disappearing offshore.

He's still young enough to play a utility role in SA tour one would have thought.

I'd still pick him over Taele given he has 32 tests of experience and the way the Blues got pumped by the Crusaders in their last game.

@brodean For me yes absolutely he's made some nice plays, but when you have Ioane (29) and ALB (31) on top of the 3 x super standouts (29, 27, 27) Havili shouldn't be in consideration. If you need to pick a 6th midfielder after those guys they shouldn't be 31, they should be 21.

Who would that 21-year-old be who deserves a jersey without just being given one, and not earning it.

@Chris There isn't one mate - I'd argue you don't need a 6th midfielder because it's a development slot and we don't have one. If you cop an injury you fly Havili in.

Cooper Roberts next year hopefully.

Yeah I know, Roberts looks the goods in a couple of years.
Not a ALB fan but Rennie will pick him.

NZ-born Kadin Pritchard
Scottish legend of the future Riley Higgins is only 23...
Xavi Taele (well, you asked!)
Lalomilo Lalomilo is 27 but Milo lasts for ages..

Better than 3 no's.

African Monkey

Havili is in the Christie category for me. Both handy to have around when there's an injury crisis. Both don't make my ABs squads but you know, if there's a big injury toll, then it's nice that we can call upon these guys.

SouthernMann

Have added Kurt Eklund to the Blues confirmed departures.

Hopefully we see teams formally announcing who will be leaving shortly. The Highlanders didn't do it last year, which was disappointing. With the confirmed re-signings you'd think the next step is to confirm departures before announcing new arrivals.

@SouthernMann You’d think even if they don’t do it for the whole squad a bloke like DLB who’s the most capped forward in the club’s history would get a farewell post.

@African-Monkey Nothing fully confirmed. But process of elimination would say likely yes. @SouthernMann would have the most up-to-date numbers, but we've been told a dozen guys are off.

Given Millar, Haig, Kautai, Vikena, Renton, Lowe, Knewstubb, Robinson, Telea, and Lowe are either confirmed or all but confirmed, that leaves two remaining blokes from the four we don't know about: DLB, Cribb, Broughton, and Howden.

There's been some chat that Cribb is around next year, so it's probably one of Broughton or Howden leaving, and my guess would be DLB.

But equally, if anyone can survive, it'd be DLB. The ultimate journeyman. He seems like part of the furniture down south.

You are trying to manifest what you want by continuing to mention Cribb. It was highly likely that Cribb picked up a two year deal for 26/27. He is there next year.

DLB is all but confirmed. With the top group. Apparently has been mentioned on private social channels or at least hinted at. He is the devil we know however, which means if we can't land a loosehead he might get another reprieve.

@SouthernMann

Mate It’s getting a bit old, you having a go every time I reply to a thread about the highlanders.

We have different opinions on a few players. That’s good. This place thrives off people who have different opinions. However I haven’t raised that here, just answered the question on players who’s contract status is unclear, then tagged you to double check if I’d missed anyone on the contracting list.

You’re capable of being pleasant. Why not choose to be?

SouthernMann

@handa457 dude I am not having a go.

You tagged me and I responded. Chill out.

@SouthernMann. Making an accusation, isn’t responding to a question mate and It’s been happening a lot.

The contracting info you’re providing is really useful. But if you don’t know how to respond without being unpleasant , then don’t respond.

SouthernMann

@handa457

@frugby mentioned Cribb was on a two year deal. You keep saying he was unknown.

I'm not having a go.

It was a joke saying you're manifesting his departure. As no one else is saying he might be leaving, just you.

If you don't like my tone. Feel free to block me.

@SouthernMann that’s news to me. But hence why I tagged you in the first place. If he’s on a two year deal then good to know.

The ‘jokes’ don’t come off as jokes. Don’t see a reason need to block anyone, when a simple conversation about communicating better should solve it.

I heard DLB most likely gone - so confirmed leaving or staying?

Cribb said he was back next year, doesn't mean he can't get his contract ripped up, but I'd say that would be unlikely - and equally dumb considering his age.

Dan54

So Havili is gone from Crusaders.

mariner4life

feels like a real hollowing out year. 3-4 AB standard players, at least a dozen who are guaranteed Super level starters on top of that. All at once.

taniwharugby

@mariner4life def looks a bigger exodus than other pre-RWC years.

Kiwiwomble

potentially what happens when selection for higher honours gets....murky...not connected with form

antipodean

@Kiwiwomble lets be honest here DLB and Havili weren't displaying AB standard form this year.

Kiwiwomble

@antipodean i wasnt implying every person leaving should have been an AB

SouthernMann

Every year we will lose some that we want to keep. This year seems we are seeing some lads read the room and think fuck it, we are off.

From a Highlanders perspective I am pretty happy with the guys who are moving on. None would be starting players in 2027. Which has to be a win.

The interesting numbers will be post 2027. How many guys will be looking overseas affer the world cup or if they don't get an AB shot.

@canefan Yip he did but its not enough to meet what is needed at AB level moving forward. Been a great servant of Mako- Crusaders and All Black rugby and deserves 3-5 years earning life changing coin japanese style

Havili had a very good season. But .happy the selectors have moved on

I'm sure as a Canes supporter you'd think that after his performance against the Hurricanes.

That said I think at his best he deserved his All Black tenure, but he wasn't the type of player they tried to make him. Instead of being a second five-eighth, they wanted more of a bash merchant at 12.

I didn't mean it like that. I thought he played pretty well this SR season. But I did not want him in the ABs

@mariner4life Hansen factor for Saders clear out??
