@canefan I'd take any mix of our tight five over Ireland's "famed" forwards.
Our tight 5 are bloody good right now - they'll give Rassie's lot a really hard time. It's 6/7/8 that needs work.

@Landers92 ..so when do the players get told who is starting ? Has the whole team been named behind closed doors already ?
Players don't find out until same time as we do and spend the next 3 days just playing touch in random positions
I don’t believe anything about possible team lineup until one of the Ferner’s rocks up to a training session and then tells us who is running the cutter.
What if a Ferner overhears the team while at breakfast?
And has he been seen since he spilled.the beans?

There's a really good mix of experience and youth which means the likes of Darry and Holland can come of age in a stable environment.
@Victor-Meldrew Surely the plan is to give Parker a run?
Otherwise why was he there?
I see Ardie Parker and Lakai but not sure jersey numbers- possibly LJ if fit and he would be 7
@kidcalder maybe some guys arent responding to the different gameplan at training as well as they expected, hence why they havent had any time yet? Or maybe they had a plan, injuries excepted, on how they intended to use the squad, and some were likely to not get any minutes at all?

Surely you go 6. Parker 7. Savea and 8. Lakai

Just interested in what are the criteria to 'come of age'?

@brodean i feel out idea of a young player has changed a lot recently, i dont think in days gone past we'd talk about 25 year olds as needing to mature or "come of age", i think in the past we'd see guys in the mid 20's becoming regular starters as the norm
Yeah I'm curious because I feel like Darry was close to two MOTM performances in his last two tests so just wondering what the critiera is now days.
Also wondering if Darry is capable of producing 3 games in a row of that quality. Will there be a dip in form this weekend if he's picked?
@frugby said in NC: All Blacks v Ireland:
Just guessing. Is it possible Parker isn’t quite hitting that new 3 second metric yet?
I think that's what Rennie's comment from a couple of weeks ago was alluding to. If Parker still isn't meeting that target and it’s a standard Rennie expects from his players, then he needs to keep holding him accountable and leave him out of the selection.

Might also depend on the quality of the opposition forwards..

Throwing himself about away from home against the best pack in the world and finishing the tour feared as opposed to being just another lad filling the jersey.

Isn’t it when he starts off as an awkward, overlooked teenager everyone ignores, then gets a makeover, changes his wardrobe, gains confidence and walks into school in slow motion as everyone realises he was beautiful all along?
@ShaquilleOatmeal Also think it is possible they have picked him in the knowledge of it, and want to work with him on it as they see upside.
Which to me would represent a refreshing use of people skills.

Jordie Barrett sitting out training today.
Yeah just on the radio eh
@kidcalder said in NC: All Blacks v Ireland:
I could see if Jordi injured Tupaea and Reiko combo ALB on the bench
Rieko jumping ahead of both Proctor and Lienert-Brown?
@ARHS said in NC: All Blacks v Ireland:
Isn't Tupaea and ALB a more logical combo. Maybe Rieko on the bench?
As far as being part of the squad longer yes.
Just personally I would like to see Tupaea - Reiko combo, ALB to the bench seen all we need from him
@kidcalder Personal preference, sure. But I'd be surprised if someone not initially selected in the squad and only now present as injury cover for the outside backs jumps ahead of two players, especially one who's only played 25 minutes. I think they should be playing Tupaea or Proctor as much as possible until they either prove they're up to the task or it becomes obvious they aren't.
Just don't think you can generate much attack with ALB in the team.
ABs were scoring a try every 9 minutes until Jordie was replaced by ALB then managed one in the last 25 minutes through the forwards.
He's ok if you are trying to close a game out from a winning position but I don't think he offers anything if you are behind.

So no other changes in either team in that period?

Nah it was all Luke Jacobson's fault, we only led by 4 when he was on the field - won the game by an extra 26 once we got rid of him.
Should have the back line up tonight/tomorrow morning. Just waiting on confirmation on the last couple and how they pull up today.

For me, this is a preference, not oil. I want to see ST start at hooker with Aumua on the bench.
Codie has had a massive year as it is and father time is clearly catching up to him. Give Numia and Tosi the spots on the bench. Have them come on and show us what they can add against a solid Irish side. Sititi drops out of the 23 for me with Lakai coming straight back in at 6 and Segner on the bench.
What I did hear earlier today that is oil, is Rennie is not all too enthused with the halfback options in the country at the moment. Expect to see Ratima get another crack off the bench this weekend.
Yes, its time. taylor to offer the experience in the squad and a safety net if we need it. He wasn't great against Italy.
Our pack lacks ball runners and impact (although our props have made good progress in this area) and Aumua and Sami offer huge amounts of this. They are both in great form. Lets let them off the leash!

Proctor has already had two seasons.
One of the luckiest players in New Zealand to be starting in the ABs I'd say.
