Isn't the forum public?

I think there's largely a collective understanding that some information shared on the Fern is shared in confidence. The Myth page on FB has a large following and whoevers leaking information to that page is going against what @landers92 has asked.

Dick move in my view and I'm not suprised @landers92 is now reluctant to share that sort of information going forward.

Why? If the team isn't supposed to be leaked and whichever old mates on here are leaking it then that's on them isn't it?

There's no cone of silence in this place.

I don't say stuff from AB tours in the late 90s if I don't think it's for public knowledge.

Because it means we don’t get it on here if the idiot keeps leaking it to FB. So whoever is doing it is ruining it for the rest of us.

I don't care. The leaking was one of the issues with the last AB regime, I'm actually disappointed in Rennie for not stamping out.

I can hold out to the official team naming days.

Leaking has been going on for years. Players talk to families, family members talk. Staff talk as well.

Are you really making a case that the leaking of the past few years has been on a similar par to other years, in most years it's journos guessing from training with a sometime decent and sometimes not strike rate?

I know your natural reaction is shields up for your mostly rednblack coaching team, and I don't fault you for that, but the previous lot leaked like a sieve that only had one gigantic hole.

ACT Crusader

@Nepia all I can say from my own experience is that during the Henry/Hansen years players talked before teams were named and stuff got out. And I’m not just talking about journos having a calculated guess.

I don't remember them being discussed on here during that time, in fact I don't remember them being discussed until the Razor era, maybe it's only noticeable when we're not doing so well (although then I should remember the Fozzie era).

Either way, I think it's a bit precious of us as a group to get upset at our leaks being leaked.

One interesting note

Based on the above it sounds like no Preston - I wonder if its a case of not meeting markers or the plan was to give him a look vs Italy and that didnt happen as Ratima only got 5 mins vs France.

frugby

I question how important the leaking of a rugby team is given we find out well in advance of the game anyway.

Without leaks you can probably guess 80% anyway, and generally the 50/50 positions won’t be overly important in regards to the way a side plays - and if it is, teams have time to adjust anyway.

Way more relevant to a sport like football, where you change formation, style of play etc.

Whether it is Jordie or Tupaea, Love or B Barrett, Parker or Segner, I wouldn’t expect the overall gameplan to shift that much.

Rennie really isn’t a fan of our available halfback cattle. I know there were very short discussions about wanting to get a kiwi that’s currently overseas back into the squad somehow if it were possible. Was shut down very quickly obviously.

Yeah I’m not sure of the issue when someone posts something on a public forum, it’s free game for people to use at will.

A funny story from a few years ago. I posted one of my top quality Crusader AB lineups on the Fern and then it was posted on two other forums as if that was the official team.

Preston hasn't exactly looked in tip top shape eh, doesn't seem nearly as dynamic as last year.

It's not that the info isn't for public individual consumption on here, it's someone taking it and passing it off as their own, and mass distributing it while probably trying to make money off their platform.
That shit is well and truly against pub rules.

Well, there's also shame (and a couple of other things) which stop people doing dickhead things they can but shouldn't.

taniwharugby

Circa 2010-2015 it was more a.surprise if we didn't know who was starting, people here lamented about it.being boring and predictable.

TBH i am surprised there aren't more leaks, especially when debuts are involved.

Players must be told Monday/Tuesday to start training, combos etc, the fact what we get leaked is all we get is more of a surprise.

Segner and Jacobson? That could work. I'd also like to see Lakai at 8 and Ardie off bench. Probably won't happen though...

Passing intel on for profit and passing it as your own is not cool

well

no need to be precious
the big deal here is more about gambling/betting

lets not forget brandon smith got charged by police for giving his buddies some inside intel about team line-ups
doesn't seem to be much of an issue in rugby union . . . yet
but probably will be in the future

a lot of the big sports leagues have direct links with odds-making outfits now, so they dont want to be upsetting those guys

the team naming process is likely to get tightened up and regulated, for that reason

Pretty hard to ban someone on a public forum is the point.

Might be easier to find them...

On the plus side, a "leak" that BB is playing 13 would be fun

But if he is a stop gap who wins us a Boks Tour then he will go down in ABs folklore

why is he a stop gap? Looks pretty useful to me.

Having Aaron Smith back and playing 20 odd mins of test footy off the bench every week would be the ideal solution to this problem - then again, his lack of any running game might be an issue for some...

Because I think Moorby is just the hot hand right now - probably not in a dissimilar mode to George Bridge a few years ago.

There is nothing wrong with that either, but also given his age, it is hard to see him being of use past 2027.

Frank

Don't agree with the assessments on Moorby.
Low error rate, excellent option taker, good under the high ball, links well, can play fullback and wing.
Ideal for test footy.

Hard disagree.

Go back and watch his tries when he was near the try scoring record for Super and got selected. They were bog average- typically gettin gthe ball in space a few yards out from the line iwth no defenders. If you think I'm exaggerating, I think in 12-14 tries he beat maybe 3-4 defenders. Classic example of statistics being misleading.

For the ABs his ability to beat a man was unrivalled - but in the wrong direction. He just ran into ocntact over and over. It was pitiful.

There's a great team try highlight that pops up on the All Blacks' social media every now and then. It features everything you want to see: flowing rugby, offloads, accurate passing, players running into space and plenty of involvement from across the team. Except when the ball reaches Bridge, who stops in his tracks and goes to ground almost before the defender even touches him.
