I am absolutely in favour of Moorby starting this week - I also don’t really see him as anything other than a stop gap.

But if he is a stop gap who wins us a Boks Tour then he will go down in ABs folklore

Because I think Moorby is just the hot hand right now - probably not in a dissimilar mode to George Bridge a few years ago.

Go back and watch his tries when he was near the try scoring record for Super and got selected. They were bog average- typically gettin gthe ball in space a few yards out from the line iwth no defenders. If you think I'm exaggerating, I think in 12-14 tries he beat maybe 3-4 defenders. Classic example of statistics being misleading.

For the ABs his ability to beat a man was unrivalled - but in the wrong direction. He just ran into ocntact over and over. It was pitiful.

You could be talking about Doug Howlett.

Rubbish. Howlett could beat and a man and scored trys against more teams than Japan.

Like Bridge's tries against Australia, South Africa and Ireland, you mean?

Howlett had great speed but go back and watch his try-scoring highlights - there are only half a dozen or so amongst them that someone like Bridge couldn't also finish.

Lol what are you talking about, I have never seen Bridge skin players on the outside the way Howlett used too. His pace was a weapon, Bridge didn't have a single weapon in his arsenal on attack, he was nothing more than a solid Super player.

That doesn't really counter what I said though?

While we wait on the team, any sppeculation on whether we will look too change our gameplan at all? Will we continue to look for quick ball and show patience in retention for multiple phases? Or will we look to play territory more, kick more (whether high balls or for corners)? One aspect that I thought was disappointing across both the first 2 tests was our mauling - we didn't seem to make a lot of ground in either game. With Ireland having arguably a better pack than both Italy and France F, it is hard to see that improving this week?

@voodoo personally i'd love to see both...at our decretion, take control, keep them homest woth fast ball and then take territory....back and forward, keep them guessing

@voodoo i don’t know about all that but I can almost guarantee that it will be a game of two halves with lots of credit to the boys.

A couple of surprises but a decent sized team to secure ruck ball and provide a platform for the backs.

Would have preferred Tosi over Newell and what's this obsession with Taylor? Not selecting Darry is ridiculous imo.

Only thing I’m slightly nervous about is we could easily snooker ourselves with that bench.

I am assume the plan will be for Tuipulotu to go off for Lakai (Vaa’i to lock) and Segner for Jacobson.

If an injury comes at the wrong time, we could be left with Segner at lock…

Ryan obviously has plenty of say in the front row selections. I hope we see changes by the end of the SA tour.

All this talk about playing up tempo rugby and then we pick a forward pack full of cart horses.

Then we go and select Newell as an impact prop over Tosi who is our best in that role.

You also have the under done Tuipolotu coming in for our form lock.

Just another year of head scratching selections in all honesty.

Would have liked to see someone else given a start at hooker. Taylor was not as good in Wellington as in Christchurch and he is not a spring chicken.

I get why they have selected him but that cap might have been better given to Samisoni with Aumua off the bench.

Vai'i picked at 6 to challenge the Irish lineout....?

at first i agree but also like the idea of two games back to back rather than in and out

Other concern is Ratima and ALB - not sure a backline is scoring much with both on in the latter stages of a match.

So assume Parker is only there for injury cover now?

I don't think leaving out Darry is as big an issue as being made out. All our locks are of a decent standard, which isn't to say Darry hasn't performed best so far, but I remember even during the team naming some posters not being on board with him.

I think lock is the one position in the current ABs I don't mind us mixing up so much.

Not a huge fan of Vai'i at 6 though but maybe Rennie can make it work.

@akan004 I guess maybe he exceeded expectations in T1 and backed it up in T2, but knew we likely had PT coming back for this one, so had already played him more than anticipated.

Yep, and he looked pretty tired in 2nd half last week, I think he probably earnt a break. Let's not burn out a young fella .

The bench has a few players that aren't known for their impact in that role. We better not be chasing the game by the time those guys are due to come on

Vaa’i at blindside confirms they’re still searching for the right option there and don’t yet know who, if anyone, will provide it. Parker can’t be doing enough at training for Rennie’s liking.

Like others, I find it strange that Taylor is starting all three tests. At the very least, he could have been on the bench for one game to give another hooker more game time.

Tuipulotu straight into the starting lineup is interesting too, especially because he seemed like he’d fill the bench role so well. He might end up the midweek captain so this selection may reflect that.

And Beauden Barrett may have played his last test, which I have no issue with.

I like it. If there's an adjustment to the game plan. (see picking Barrett S at 6 then not contesting lineout debacle).
Backline good.
Ireland have a dodgy scrum. Picking Pat at TH lock, and Asafo and Newell on the bench gives us the ability to target it.
The Aussies had some success disrupting their lineout too.

Not sure why there’s confusion around Taylor starting.

We have kept our spine in tact for all 3 tests - 2,8,9,10,15 - for me that’s a positive.

EdG picks himself. The only question was whether they thought Lomax was back in top shape.

The AB scrum to close last weeks game was a little iffy from my perspective. I like our bench FR to address that.

Welcome back Patty T. Good to have him fit. He must be champing/chomping at the bit to get the start. I like it.

Vaa’i to blindside - my only concern is his speed off the scrum. Everything else that we need from a loosie is there. LJ and Ardie pick themselves.

Backs return to France lineup with an opportunity for Moorby. Again a positive.

Agree with the Moorby selection just would have put him at 15 with DMac on the bench where he has more impact. Also best thing about this team, no Beauden Barrett

I like it, Rennie continues to pick shit hot backlines which is such a huge positive this year, means we are going to be dangerous in every test. I would have started Clarke but Moorby is in hot form and Clarke can offer quite a bit of punch from the bench. Segner and Lakai could offer some serious impact from the bench as well if we want to speed things up in the 2nd 40.

I would have started Sami. Otherwise I like it. Giving Vaai a shot at 6 is a good move.
So glad Rennie is trying stuff out. Bringing Segner and Lakai on in the 2nd half would be a top move.
Moorby is a Snakey reincarnation. Always good value.

It would be nice to start better, we have conceded points very early in both games, sure we won and that's all that matters ultimately, but it aint ideal.

Our locks haven’t made the transition to No. 6 well including Vai’i last time. New coaches so they can have a crack and see how it goes. He has a good work rate, is physical around breakdown, not sure how he rates for dominant tackles?
